SIU was built on the principles of vedic thought of “World as One Family” and is resplendent of the activities and students of several countries. The students come from more than 60 countries and find this to be a home away from home. Symbiosis Centre of International Education, wing of SIU, is responsible in promoting this idea and also facilitate international students. SIU also has MOU’s of collaboration with several renowned universities of the world and encourages students & faculty to participate in its programmes.

Symbiosis was conferred with the Deemed University status vide the MHRD notification No. F.9-12/2002.U-3 (A) dated 6th May 2002 which brought within its ambit the three institutes viz

	Symbiosis Society’s Law college
	Symbiosis Institute of Business Management
	Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies & Research

Subsequently the University applied to the UGC to bring ten institutes under its ambit. The Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Higher Education) vide its notification No. F.9-12/2006-U.3 (A) dated 10.11.2006 brought the following institutes under the ambit of the University at Pune

The University was accorded ex-post facto approval to start the following programmes vide UGC letter No. F.6-1(ix)/2005(CPP-1)/DU/1783 dated 10.10.2006

	Bachelor of Science (Imaging Science)
	Bachelor of Science (Medical Technology)

During the academic year 2007-08, with the permission of Indian Nursing Council and Maharashtra Nursing Council vide their communications No.MNC/G(INS/92 dated 12.6.2007- and No. 122/02 /June 2007 dated 1.6.2007 respectively, the Symbiosis College of Nursing was established providing the Bachelor of Science (in Nursing) and for Post Basic B.Sc.(N).

The Ministry of Human Resource Development vide its notification No. F.10-6/2007U.3(A) dated 17.4.2008 accorded approval to include the off-campus centre-Bengaluru in the ambit of University.

Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, vide its notification No. F.No. 9-11-(U.3(A) dated March 2008, approved the proposal of change in name from Symbiosis International Education Centre to Symbiosis International University.

Symbiosis Institute of Technology was accorded approval by AICTE vide letter No. F.No.06/07/MS/Engg/2008/32 dated 30.6.2008 and accorded permission to start programme Bachelor of Technology. The UGC vide notification No. F.30-1/2008(CPP-1) dated 17.12.2008 accorded its approval and forwarded recommendation to the MHRD who inturn gave its approval vide notification No. F.10-4/2008U.3 (A) dated 14.1.2009, to establish Symbiosis Institute of Technology under its ambit.

To promote the Research activities “Symbiosis Institute of Research and Innovation” was established in 2009.

The University has started the Symbiosis School of Economics leading to the Degree Bachelor of Science (Economics) as per the UGC letter No. F.61(11)/2006(Cpp-I) dated 15.7. 2006 forwarding the MHRD notification No F.2-1/2006U.3(A) dated 5.4.2006 empowering University to start the courses such as B.A./,B.Sc. etc.
